CarConex operates a two-sided marketplace that helps:

  • Customers find, request quotes from, and book automotive services; and
  • Service Providers (businesses) promote and provide automotive services to Customers.

1. Personal information

The types of personal information we may collect about you include:

Identity and contact information:

  • your name;
  • your contact details (email address, phone number, and address/suburb/postcode);

Account and profile information:

  • username/profile details (including business profile details for Service Providers);
  • your preferences and/or opinions;
  • information you provide through surveys, forms, waitlists, reviews, ratings, messages, or customer support requests;

Transaction and service information

  • details of services you request, enquire about, book, or provide;
  • communications between Customers and Service Providers via the platform (for example, messages, quote requests, quote responses, booking details);

Payment information

  • credit/debit card or payment details processed via our third-party payment processor (we generally do not store full card details).

Device and usage information

  • browser session and geo-location data (where enabled), device and network information;
  • statistics on page views and sessions, acquisition sources, search queries and browsing behaviour;
  • information about your access and use of our Services, including through cookies and similar technologies.

Additional information

  • any other personal information requested by us and/or provided by you or a third party.

If you are a Customer
If you are a Customer
We may request information about your vehicle to help match you with providers and deliver services, such as:

  • vehicle make/model/year and service requirements;
  • vehicle photos you upload;
  • number plate and (where relevant) VIN.

If you are a Service Provider
We may request information to verify your business and help Customers make informed decisions, such as:

  • business name, ABN/ACN (where applicable), trading address and service areas;
  • business contact details and representative details;
  • licensing/qualifications (where relevant);
  • business insurance evidence;
  • identity verification details for authorised representatives (where required);
  • police check or other screening information only if required for trust/safety or compliance (and handled with appropriate consent and safeguards).

We may collect personal information directly from you, or from third parties (for example, identity verification providers, payment processors, analytics providers, marketing platforms, or publicly available sources).

2. Collection and use of personal information

We may collect, hold, use and disclose personal information for the following purposes:

Providing and operating the marketplace

  • to enable you to access and use the Services;
  • to create and manage accounts (Customer and Service Provider);
  • to facilitate quote requests, quoting, bookings, service delivery, and customer support;
  • to enable marketplace features such as messaging, reviews/ratings, dispute handling, and fraud prevention;
  • to verify identity or business details where required for trust, safety, and compliance.

Communications

  • to contact and communicate with you about your account, quotes, bookings, service updates, and support requests.

Payments and administration

  • for internal record keeping and administrative purposes;
  • for invoicing, billing, payment processing, refunds, and chargeback management.

Improvement, analytics, and research

  • for analytics, market research and business development, including to operate, maintain, troubleshoot and improve our Services.

Marketing

  • to run promotions, competitions and/or offer additional benefits;
  • for advertising and marketing, including sending promotional information about our Services (and, where permitted, third-party offers we believe may interest you). Direct marketing is handled in line with applicable privacy requirements, including opt-out options.

Legal and safety

  • to comply with our legal obligations;
  • to resolve disputes, enforce our terms, and protect the rights, property, or safety of CarConex, our users, and the public.

Employment

  • if you apply for employment with us, to consider your application.

3. Sharing information between Customers and Service Providers

Because CarConex is a marketplace, some information is shared between users to make the service work:

When a Customer requests a quote or booking

We may share relevant Customer information with selected Service Providers, such as:

  • name and contact details (or secure in-platform contact method);
  • suburb/location or service address (as needed for the job);
  • vehicle and service request details (including photos if provided);
  • preferred times/dates and any notes.

When a Service Provider responds

We may share the Service Provider’s business profile information with Customers, such as:

  • business name, location/service area, contact details (or secure in-platform contact method);
  • licensing/insurance/verification badges (where displayed);
  • quote details, availability, and booking confirmations;
  • reviews/ratings and profile content.

Important note

  • Service Providers are generally independent businesses. When you provide personal information directly to a Service Provider (whether via CarConex or outside the platform), that Service Provider may handle it under their own privacy practices. CarConex is not responsible for how an independent Service Provider handles information outside CarConex systems.

4. Disclosure of personal information to third parties

We may disclose personal information to:

  • third party service providers for the purpose of enabling them to provide their services, including (without limitation) IT service providers, data storage, web-hosting and server providers, debt collectors, maintenance or problem-solving providers, marketing or advertising providers, professional advisors and payment systems operators;
  • our employees, contractors and/or related entities;
  • our existing or potential agents or business partners;
  • sponsors or promoters of any promotions or competition we run;
  • anyone to whom our business or assets (or any part of them) are, or may (in good faith) be, transferred;
  • credit reporting agencies, courts, tribunals and regulatory authorities, in the event you fail to pay for services we have provided to you;
  • courts, tribunals, regulatory authorities and law enforcement officers, as required by law, in connection with any actual or prospective legal proceedings, or in order to establish, exercise or defend our legal rights;
  • third parties, including agents or sub-contractors, who assist us in providing information, products, services or direct marketing to you. This may include parties located, or that store data, outside of Australia; and
  • third parties to collect and process data, such as Google Analytics. This may include parties that store data outside of Australia.

By providing us with personal information, you consent to the disclosure of your information outside of Australia and acknowledge that we are not required to ensure that overseas recipients handle that personal information in compliance with Australian Privacy law. You acknowledge that some overseas third parties may not be regulated by the Privacy Act and the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act and if any third party engages in any act or practice that contravenes the Australian Privacy Principles, it would not be accountable under the Privacy Act and you will not be able to seek redress under the Privacy Act.

CarConex may use computer programs and automated processes to help operate the marketplace, for example to:

  • match Customers with relevant Service Providers based on location, service type, availability, and preferences;
  • rank or recommend providers (for example, based on responsiveness, ratings, proximity, or other factors);
  • detect suspected fraud, spam, or misuse.

These processes may influence what options you see, who receives a request, or the order results are displayed.

How we treat personal information that is also sensitive information

Sensitive information is a sub-set of personal information that is given a higher level of protection under the Australian Privacy Principles. Sensitive information means information relating to your racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religion, trade union or other professional associations or memberships, philosophical beliefs, sexual orientation or practices, criminal records, health information or biometric information.

We will not collect sensitive information about you without first obtaining your consent.

Provided you consent, your sensitive information may only be used and disclosed for purposes relating to the primary purpose for which the sensitive information was collected.

Sensitive information may also be used or disclosed if required or authorised by law.

Your rights and controlling your personal information

If you provide personal information to us, you understand we will collect, hold, use and disclose your personal information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. You do not have to provide personal information to us, however, if you do not, it may affect your use of our Services.

We will promptly investigate your complaint and respond to you, in writing, setting out the outcome of our investigation and the steps we will take to deal with your complaint.

We are committed to ensuring that the personal information we collect is secure.

Our Services may contain links to other websites. We do not have any control over those websites and we are not responsible for the protection and privacy of any personal information which you provide whilst visiting those websites. Those websites are not governed by this Privacy Policy.
